The Range Rover Sport SVR has been branded as the “world’s most capable performance SUV” as well as the fastest ever Land Rover – which is some mean feat.
But the new SVR model clearly deserves this double accolade. Powered by a 5.0 litre V8 petrol engine, the luxury SUV has an incredible 543 Bhp combined with 680Nm of torque. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 4.7 seconds, which is considerably faster than other models in the Range Rover Sport range such as the exclusive Autobiography version.
In fact, the Range Rover Sport SVR is as fast as a Porsche 911, but much bigger, more comfortable and dare we say it more practicable. You can’t very well pack much in the Porsche 911 but if you fancy a fast drive to the upmarket ski resorts of Courchevel 1850 or Val d’Isere, there will be plenty of room in the Range Rover Sport SVR.
SVR stands for Special Vehicle Racing which goes someway to explaining this incredible machine, which is the most powerful vehicle to have ever been made by Land Rover. To get some bearing on its incredible speed, the Range Rover Sport SVR literally flew around the 12.9 mile test track in Nurburgring, Germany, in just 8.14 minutes. This is seconds faster than a Porsche Cayman, Jaguar XKR and Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG.
What’s more, the Range Rover Sport SVR also sounds like a sports car, thanks to a two-stage exhaust system which is looked after by electronically controlled valves. It also has 6-piston caliper Brembo brakes, front and rear bumpers that come with large air intakes and especially dominant wheel arches.
Inside, the Range Rover Sport SVR is equally as impressive. The leather seats just ooze class, and the steering wheel is heavenly to touch. Every mod con has been carefully considered, from LED mood lighting to backseats that mirror those in the front, with an audio system to rival any home entertainment package. However, who needs an entertainment sound system in a car which is clearly going to be so much fun to drive?
